Monsters van de Bovengrond, 2024
assemblage of performance, video, sound and narration (25 minutes)

Exhibition:
the performance took place on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5

How has the soil of the former industrial site ’t Zoet evolved over the years, and what forces have shaped it? What hidden narratives can we uncover by exploring this natural archive? Have plants and animals managed to adapt to the polluted environment? Monsters of the Surface delves into these questions, leading us through layers of earth and history. Combining performance, diverse perspectives, and storytelling, this project reveals the hidden stories embedded in the soil.
Monsters van de Bovengrond is created in collaboration with performer Bodine Sutorius, soil remediator Koen van Rens, soil specialist John Vegt, and the Breda City Archive.

This project is part of KOPlopers, an initiative by KOP that pairs artists with experts from different fields to create meaningful public experiences.

The project is supported by Maand van de Geschiedenis, ‘t Zoet, gemeente Breda, het Cultuurfonds and the Mondriaan fonds.
