Through the Plateau, a site-specfic performative essay
11th–12th October, 2025
The Butterfly House in collaboration with Bonnefantenmuseum
Curated by Celien Govaerts (Bonnefanten)
In this performance, developed in collaboration with Bodine Sutorius, we trace the marks of human and non-human forces in the landscape and the transformations that follow. The work moves through different moments in time and areas of the site: from water shaping the terrain over time, to histories of farming, to contemporary issues such as nitrogen pollution, as well as the dumping of industrial waste, such as ceramic shards from manufacturers including Royal Sphinx and Mosa.
Unfolding across five locations, the performance takes the form of a spatial, performative essay, in which each site reveals a different fragment of the narrative. A collage of performance, archival audio fragments, sculpture, and costume explores the tensions between optimistic interventions and unintended consequences, between economic and ecological priorities, and between the resilience and vulnerability of nature in the context of human missteps.
